Ontario is investing in the next generation of entrepreneurs by providing an opportunity to pitch their business ideas to experts and the public as part of the province’s Young Entrepreneurs, Make Your Pitch competition.
The competition challenges high school students from across Ontario, including in Etobicoke-Lakeshore, to promote their business idea in a two-minute video. Make Your Pitch is a partnership between the province and Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE). The videos will be evaluated by judges from the business community while the public will be able to vote online for the best pitch.
Twenty finalists will present their ideas to a judging panel at OCE’s Discovery conference in Toronto May 9-10 and will also receive business coaching and mentoring.
Six winners will get reserved entry into the Summer Company program, which includes a grant of up to $3,000 to help launch their business.
Helping young entrepreneurs succeed is part of the government’s plan to build Ontario up and deliver on its number-one priority to grow the economy and create jobs. The four-part plan includes investing in people’s talents and skills, making the largest investment in public infrastructure in Ontario’s history, creating a dynamic, supportive environment where business thrives, and building a secure retirement savings plan.
“It’s inspiring to see the entrepreneurial ideas generated by Ontario’s young people. Initiatives like the Make Your Pitch competition help us nurture the next generation of business leaders. We want to continue this momentum because learning business start-up skills will help our young entrepreneurs build their futures and the future of Ontario’s economy.”
— Brad Duguid, Minister of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure
“Entrepreneurs are a significant contributor to Ontario’s economy and this community. Initiatives like the Young Entrepreneurs, Make Your Pitch competition are an effective way to introduce high school students to the idea that entrepreneurship is a viable career option and allow them to experience the excitement of building interest for a new business opportunity.”
— Peter Milczyn, MPP, Etobicoke-Lakeshore
“Ontario Centres of Excellence is pleased to once again be partnering with the Government of Ontario to deliver the Young Entrepreneurs, Make Your Pitch contest. We will continue to create an inviting environment for our future entrepreneurs, ensuring they develop the right skills needed to succeed in a globally competitive economy.”
